Journaling can be a means to express yourself through writing, with regards to healing and growth. It is an activity that allows you to unburden yourself without engaging others or speaking your thinking.
Why Journal?

Journaling provides for us perspective on ourselves and our way of life. Because thoughts travel in a linear fashion, it's tough to see the big picture when playing your own thoughts. When you're able to write it down and look at it later, you can observe yourself from the distance. And you then will make adjustments when needed. For me personally, there are times i don't wish to speak what exactly is on my small mind, since i have desire to "be impeccable" with my word, as suggested by Don Miguel Ruiz in the Four Agreements. I can settle your differences in my journal without speaking in any way.
Journaling also helps you to gain a longer view. You can verify your progress. You may notice the goals that you were grabbing years back are reality now, zinc heightens confidence and faith.
Journaling may be best for your wellbeing. This has been shown to be a fantastic stress-reliever, and that we truly realize some great benefits of less negative feelings. Emptying your "worry bucket" can take an enormous load off your mind (and your other organs!)
Effective Journaling

Annoying as it can be for perfectionists (who get caught up in the editing) or people who have ADD (who don't take well to writing exercises) the advantages to persevering within this self-discovery tool are many. To recap here are a few great things about journaling: gain clarity, solve difficult problems, alleviate stress, heal emotional wounds, track progress, realize gratitude, reduce worry and grow spiritually.
I've always used pen and notebooks, but I am testing out at this time journaling software. (it has a free trial offer period) I'll tell you how I want it.
